I support our school counselors and universal mental health screening. We also need to foster community, limiting overuse of screens and avoiding grim, formal presentations on self-harm and mental illness—that time could be used for games, creative projects, and outdoor time that actually reduce stress and build friendships.

Substance Abuse

Substance Abuse has surged among Arlington students. Overdoses continue inside the high schools, sometimes with tragic results. While continuing preventive education and harm reduction strategies (like naloxone spray), I support aggressive early intervention to change the life trajectories for students using drugs.

Artificial intelligence (AI, like ChatGPT) is here to stay. Students must be taught to use it properly, and how to do the work on their own when they need to. I will fight industry marketing and data collection in our technology programs. I support the systemwide “Away for the Day” policy for students’ personal devices.
